Attendance Awareness

TUSD Shows Up!

We are excited to announce the launch of our 2023-2024 attendance campaign—TUSD Shows Up!  This campaign promotes the importance of good school attendance all year long. TUSD has also joined the county-wide Every Day Counts campaign that kicked off in August.  In partnership with Modesto Toyota, a brand new 2024 Toyota Corolla will be awarded to a Stanislaus County public school student who had at least one month of perfect attendance! The student who wins the car will also win one year of car insurance, donated by TSM Insurance, plus a year of free car washes from Vintage Car Wash.of Although it would be great if one our TUSD students won a car, we know the importance of daily attendance has more lasting, life-long benefits and implications. We care about each one of our students, and when they are at school each day, we know they are healthy, safe, and learning. However, when students are not in school, they are falling behind. Chronic absenteeism impacts all students—no matter their age. Students who miss just two days a month for any reason are more likely to not read at grade level, and more likely to not graduate.

Attendance can be a signal that a student needs support. Students might be absent because of:

  • struggles with school subjects
  • school climate
  • health conditions
  • anxiety
  • transportation
  • caring for family members

We are here to support students, their families, and our community in ensuring every student can attend school every day.  Here are just a few ways we do that here in TUSD:

Child Nutrition: TUSD offers FREE breakfast and lunch to all TUSD students. Learn more at the TUSD Child Nutrition website.

Counseling: All schools have counselors and TUSD also employs clinicians who can further assist with mental health and wellness support for students.

Family Resource Center: TUSD has recently opened a Family Resource Center in West Wing-4 at the TUSD District Office which provides resources, programs and services to support our diverse families. Learn more at the Family Resource Center website.

Health: Our TUSD Health Techs, School Nurses, and LVN’s are here to support your student’s health and wellness. There are times when students need to miss school due to illness and our TUSD health staff are excellent resources who can help advise parents on when their students should stay home and when they can come to school.

Transportation: TUSD may provide transportation to those students not living within reasonable walking/parent transport distance from school. Learn more by visiting Transportation Eligibility on our website.

Attendance is the key to school success and together we can ensure our students Show Up!
