District Advisory Committee on District Owned Property

Public Notice

The Board of Trustees of the Turlock Unified School District is seeking community members to serve on the District Advisory Committee on District-Owned Property (7-11 Committee) pursuant to California Education Code sections 17387–17391.

The Board is committed to conducting a transparent and inclusive public process when evaluating the future use of district-owned property. The purpose of the committee is to provide an opportunity for community participation, review relevant information, and develop recommendations for the Board of Trustees regarding the future use of a district-owned parcel.

The establishment of this committee does not represent a decision by the Board of Trustees to sell or otherwise dispose of the property. Rather, the committee has been formed to ensure that any future decision is informed by community input, thoughtful analysis, and consideration of the District's current and future educational needs.

The committee will review information regarding the property, consider enrollment trends and long-range facilities planning, receive public input, and evaluate potential options, which may include retaining the property, leasing the property, exchanging the property, or recommending that the Board of Trustees consider declaring the property surplus for possible disposition.

The committee serves solely in an advisory capacity. Any future action regarding the property may only be taken by the Board of Trustees at a properly noticed public meeting following consideration of the committee's recommendations.

Committee Members Will:

Review the District's projected enrollment and educational program needs;
Consider community input regarding the property under review;
- Establish a priority list of use of surplus space and real property that will be acceptable to the community.
- Cause to have circulated throughout the attendance area a priority list of surplus space and real property and provide for hearings of community input to the community on acceptable uses of space and real property, including the sale or lease of surplus real property for childcare development purposes.
Evaluate whether the property may be surplus to the District's present and foreseeable educational needs;
Prepare findings and recommendations for consideration by the Board of Trustees as required by Education Code section 17390.

The committee is expected to meet approximately two to four times over a period of several weeks.

Required Membership

California law provides that the committee shall consist of no fewer than seven (7) and no more than eleven (11) members representing a broad cross-section of the community.

The District encourages applications from individuals representing a variety of backgrounds and interests, including:

Parent of a TUSD student
Business community representative
Senior citizen
Neighborhood representative
Commercial real estate professional
Land use/development professional
Community organization representative
At-large community member
Agriculture, water, or land use representative

The Board of Trustees will consider balanced community representation, professional expertise, and diverse perspectives when making appointments.

Board Appointment: September 15, 2026

Selected Applicants for the District Advisory Committee on District-Owned Property (7-11 Committee) will be appointed by the Board of Trustees during the regularly scheduled board meeting on September 15, 2026

The Governing Board anticipates appointing committee members at a regularly scheduled public meeting following the close of the application period.
