The mission of the Turlock Unified School District Instructional Coaches, a collaborative and accessible network of educators, is to ensure all students achieve their highest potential by supporting stakeholders through the implementation of best instructional practices, with the core belief that all students can succeed.
TUSD Instructional Coach Model
-
Purpose
To improve student learning by providing continuous, relevant, and job-embedded support to students and teachers. The instructional coach model provides support and resources in the following content areas/programs as related to best practices, subject-matter, & student achievement, with majority assigned to most eligible-populated TK-6 sites (Brown, Crowell, Cunningham, Osborn, Wakefield).

Student-Centered Coaching Model
Student-centered coaching is about setting specific targets for students that are rooted in the standards and curriculum and working collaboratively to ensure that the targets are met. Coaches measure their impact based on student learning.

Role of the Principal
The principal intentionally structures a professional learning community, shares responsibility in leading and learning, and supports instructional coaching.
Principal commits to:
- Monitor and adjusts instructional goals and strategies based on data
- Communicate the importance of the student-centered instructional coaching model
- Participate in professional learning opportunities and use information gained to implement continued improvement at the site
- Meet regularly with the instructional coaches to establish coaching priorities and to monitor and sustain the effectiveness of the coaching model

Role of the Instructional Coach
The instructional coach, in partnership with the classroom teacher and administration, analyzes data to accelerate learning for all students.
Instructional coach commits to:
- Develop collaborative relationships
- Utilize formative and summative assessment results to drive decision making
- Work collaboratively to ensure learning targets are met
- Develop coaching cycles for sustained collaboration
- Support PLC’s
- Model best practices (whole group, small group)
- Assist in setting goals for improved instruction
- Provide professional development (site, district)

Role of the Teacher
The teacher, in partnership with the instructional coach and administration, works to close the student achievement gap and accelerate learning for all students.
Teacher commits to:
- Develop collaborative relationships
- Utilize formative and summative assessment results to drive decision making
- Work collaboratively to ensure learning targets are met
- Focus on specific goals for student learning
- Model best practices (whole group, small group)
- Set goals for improved instruction
