Dear Students and Parents,
Spring is just around the corner. The blossoms are painting the countryside and our learning is budding anew. I hope you all are continuing to work hard and put forth your best efforts to ensure you are making academic growth.
Although we are in the midst of an unusual time in education, our efforts to deliver rigorous and standards-based instruction is in full force. Our teacher teams continue to work collaboratively to provide lessons that are aligned and essential so as students move to their next level they are prepared.
Attendance and participation is extremely important. We are working diligently to ensure students maximize participation by attending/logging on when scheduled. Parent support is critical in maintaining our students’ learning.
Our protocols and procedures are strictly in place to ensure students and staff are safe. We’ve had significant success keeping students and staff healthy in the school setting. Remember, it’s important to keep your child home and to contact the Crowell School Office, 209-667-0885, if your child is not feeling well.
Section 5 of Article IX of the State of California Constitution guarantees students a “free public education.” The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell (35 Cal.3d.899(1984)), “that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extra-curricular as well as curricular, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities.” The same ruling found that “mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities as drama, music, and athletic competition were illegal under the State Constitution.” Furthermore, they also rejected the argument that “fees could be charged so long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay.”
We are all part of the Crowell School Family. We focus on learning and will achieve our greatest success by supporting one another in a respectful and caring environment.
Working safely together,
Margaret Osmer, Principal
