Living in Turlock

Turlock is located almost exactly in the center of California, halfway between Sacramento and Fresno along Highway 99 in the state's Central Valley. We enjoy the benefits of a small city in a rural surrounding. Our community of 62,000, with its lovely tree shaded boulevards, is surrounded by some of the most fertile and productive farmlands in the world.

California State University, Stanislaus is located here. This provides a convenient and affordable avenue for pursuing professional growth courses. It also offers the same convenience and affordability for your children when they graduate from high school. The university also provides a variety of cultural and entertainment programs for the community.

Quality of life is high and crime is low in our community. Housing prices are much less than in the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area with a median selling price of about $240,000. A one bedroom apartment rents for about $650 per month.

Our rustic downtown recently completed a major renovation. Local shopping centers include numerous major chain retail stores including J.C. Penney. Mervyn's, Target, Home Depot, Kohl's and Borders Books. A large regional shopping mall is located 20 minutes away in Modesto.

Turlock is only a two hour drive from San Francisco,Yosemite National Park and the Monterey Peninsula. Dodge Ridge is only 90 minutes away for ski enthusiasts. Rivers and lakes within a 40 mile drive provide excellent fishing, boating, rafting and kayaking. The surrounding countryside is a bicyclist's paradise. The Turlock Community Auditorium, which is located in the same building as our District Office, regularly hosts big name entertainment.
